2009 Subaru Forester 2.0D isn't going to Yankee country

The Beast

Uncle Sam has been speculating on the 2009 Subaru Forester 2.0D driving into the country. However, from what we hear, the launch appears highly unlikely. The reason – the Subaru’s open-end filter isn’t good enough to meet the stringent emission norms in the U.S. For the Europeans, though, the compact SUV looks quite good to take a long run on the roads.

The Machine

As the name suggests, the Subaru Forester gets a 2.0ltr Diesel engine, with horizontally opposed four cylinders cast in iron-aluminum composite. Yes, the SUV will have a tall 16.3:1 compression ratio. The 145-hp churning boxer diesel will also have a common-rail injection system.

The Thrill

We hear the Forester 2.0D’s engine is as good as a gasoline one in smoothness. And considering the presence of a turbocharger, this aspect is further magnified. Moreover, Subie’s four cylinder petrol engines have always carried an irritating groan. So, we are quite content to live with the turbo’s drone. And with a timing of 10.4s for 100 km/h, we have all the more reason to believe the Europeans would love it. We do already!
