Alonso Bags a 40 million Ferrari Deal, Massa Switches to Toyota
Munish | Sep 25 2007

There is a rumor mongering in the world of formula one that two time world champion Fernando Alonso is leaving the Mclaren-Mercedes by the coming year to join Ferrari. The huge sum of $40 million from Ferrari seems to be the major part of motivation behind the shift.

The news seems more certain while the FIA made an affirmation about the emails from Alonso which made the Mclaren team bear a 50 million pounds fine and getting stripped of the 2007 constructors championship points.

Speculators also report that the following three races will be the last for the Spaniard with the Mclaren team, before he joins Ferrari.

If we take a peak into the Ferrari camp we would notice that things don’t seem much different here as Ferrari driver Felipe Massa is also switching to Toyota, with reasons seeming a little different.

Massa is supposedly taking this step forward as he thinks that the team manager will get dethroned as a consequence of an internal strife between the team manager Jean Todt and the Ferrari designer Ross Brawn, as Todt’s son is Massa’s manager, his statement makes a lot of sense.

Previously there had been a report of Alonso’s involvement in the scandal which triggered Ferrari to take litigation against Mclaren, which continued for the whole season and made McLaren Mercedes pay heavily for it.

Alonso is a breath away from becoming the champ for the third time but either way I am not sure that his team would have secured his services following the scandalous incident, he should feel lucky to get a hefty deal signed and as far as Ferrari is concerned, we all know how they spell opportunity!
