As BMW heads into 2010, a perfect symbiosis of modern design and dynamic performance is seen in its all-new 5 Series sedan. Codenamed F10, BMW has expanded its mid-size line with the new Gran Turismo body style and is based on the same platform as the 5-Series GT and the latest 7-Series sedan. While BMW describes as the largest wheelbase in the segment but the 5 Series sedan gets a four-inch shorter wheelbase than its siblings, but at 116.9 inches, it still stretches well past the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class that runs a mere 113.1 inches between its axles and the Cadillac CTS is staggered at 113.4 inches. The new 5 Series buys much of its technical specifications form the 7 Series and the Gran Turismo but cutting down on its controversial exterior design, the 5 series is more muscular and draws heavily on the Bavarian firm’s flagship limousine along with the BMW’s driver orientated center console and the classic four circular gauges on the instrument panel. Also featuring a 4th generation iDrive control screen also available in previous two versions, it comes with an optional navigation system. Scheduled to go on sale in Europe in March 2010, the 2011 5-Series is overall an efficiency concept.
