Borgward Automobiles: From Glory to Zilch and Back

Borgward will not sound a familiar name to you unless you have a German oldie in your vicinity or an old car fanatic who has been following cars since the 20’s or the 30’s ... for those who don’t have this privilege available, Borgward was a German automobile manufacturer founded by Carl F.W. Borgward on the 10th of November, 1890.This company was in existence until 1963 although they filed for bankruptcy in 1961.

The German media has recently reported that Borgward automobiles is all set to make a comeback and Charles Borgward, grandson of the founder of Borgward Automobiles, is leading the revival . Key Asian players will assist his cause and the new operations of the company will be based at its original home in Bremen, Germany.

Edmunds inside Line Reported that the company will initially produce two new models positioned between the standard Ford Mondeo and premium BMW 3 Series .

The revival act will be tough ask for the Borgward as it has to create a brand identity for itself after a gap of 45 years ... Distribution could be another major problem ... it’ll be one audacious task for Charles Borgward and co.
