Come 2009, the gas guzzling Hummer will see a hybrid version

The butch and beefy Hummer isn’t exactly known for it’s eco friendliness or politically correct behavior. But skyrocketing oil prices have forced the legendary Hummer’s makers to take some time off and come up with a solution to make the Hummer a little cleaner and greener. The easiest way to combine fuel efficiency, lower emissions and political correctness is to plonk in a hybrid drivetrain into the engine bay. This is precisely what General Motors aims to do and come mid-2009, we will see the Hummer Hybrid unveiled with a gas-electric hybrid engine. As the Hummer buyers are mostly from a demographic that usually don’t bother much about the sky rocketing gas prices, General Motors is playing it safe and is planning to produce only 200 Hybrid Hummers. But, if the oil prices continue to sky rocket, sooner or later the fat cats too will feel the pinch and start looking at the Hybrid Hummer.

Well, it’s just about time for the Hummer to be eco-friendly. But then, it seems that this idea won’t click. Hummer fans usually don’t bother about the oil price so I think they would still prefer the non-hybrid kind.
