Cyclist goes 73mph, with the power of a jet of course
Harshpaul | Jun 3 2009

Bob Maddox recently rode his jet powered bicycle at 73mph; that he did not fly off into orbit is a different story altogether. Well, 73mph isn’t even close to escape velocity, but doing that speed on a bicycle is a feat. The bicycle is an ordinary one, except that it is powered by a pulsejet, and that makes it every bit extraordinary.

The bike has two thrust engines with a hole between their combustion chambers that makes the engines cycle as one. Despite the engines being on one side of the bike, it does not pull to one side. Tires on the bicycle have heavy spokes and are aired to 65 pounds with heavy tubes. This also ensures that there is no vibration and that the bike can move at those high speeds. This bike is going to the Netherlands, and Maddox is now working on one that would generate 1400 pounds of thrust and possibly be the fastest bicycle ever.
