While we wait for cars running on alternative fuels, and battery packs providing juice for the motors, one simple fact appears to have been ignored – availability of lithium. Most batteries use lithium because of the numerous advantages it has over other options and most cars that will run completely on batteries are set to use lithium ion battery packs, ditto with the hybrids. Amidst all this, it turns out there isn’t enough lithium!
After a study of salt flats in China and South America, the major sources of lithium, coupled with the expected surge in demand, experts say supplies of the metal could be running dry by 2015. That probably could be the time of the highest demand with the highest number of electricity powered cars on the road. We can’t help drawing parallels between oil as it is now, and lithium as it will be a few years down the road, that is, unless we see some effective corrective measures coming.

Yeah we’ve been using lithium for years. There must be any alternatives.
yes well they said the same thing about the worlds oil resources after we started using it as our main fuel source..but i do think we should find an alternative source.still waiting on that water engine.... lol
