NASA delivers the spring tire, a new sole for space vehicles
Rahul Bhandari | Aug 4 2009

NASA, in collaboration with Goodyear Tires, has developed an airless tire called the “spring tire” that is suitable to use on extraterrestrial surfaces. The spring tire is very different than regular tires, as it’s made to survive the steep temperature differences. The spring tire’s 800 load bearing springs can carry heavier vehicles on it that will meet the rising necessity. Its special design of 800 load bearing springs won’t allow it to blow out as few of these springs will bear the affect. The spring tires are exhibited in the Day on the Hill at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, DC.

Spring tires could be a great achievement for the space riding vehicles, but it could be an added advantage if NASA could introduce something more worthwhile to these wheels, making them compatible for the ultimate ATVs.
