Porsche makes way to India
Parul | Sep 22 2007

In the current market scenario, Indian luxury car market is still in its premature phase even though the potential here is unlimited. India is placed amongst the top four markets for luxury cars in Asia which is why auto-giants like Porsche desire to bring more of its cars to India.

This will be for the first time in history that Porsche will drop its ‘Made in Germany’ image to assemble cars in India, not just for the country but possibly for the surrounding markets as well.

Speculations are that there will be more Porsches available to Indian buyers at cheaper prices since, there will be lesser duty on locally assembled cars. The automaker is enthusiastic to launch the hottest GT and the Cayenne GTS as soon as possible.

Porsche has presently set up a new office in India and will be working intimately with Volkswagen which is also expecting to move production to the country.

Porsche already holds 30.9% stake in VW, which has prompted a takeover bid under the German law. It is likely to hike its stake to a majority level by the end of 2007. Porsche and VW have teamed up on different projects in the past, but now the alliance will go a step further.
