Stanford’s Shelley robotic car to drift at Pikes Peak
Harshpaul | Oct 29 2009

Stanford’s latest robotic car is an Audi TTS, and the robotic DNA in there comes with sensors, GPS guidance, and literally a car load of computers. The autonomous car can top at an impressive 130mph, and Stanford has enough trust in the car to send it to conquer the Pikes Peak next year.

The racecar can quickly monitor its surroundings and behave accordingly, thus it is capable of maintaining high speeds and avoiding accidents. With an advanced system like that present in conventional vehicles, accident avoidance could get a huge jump.

The autonomous car’s name, Shelley, is homage to Michèle Mouton, the most successful female rally driver and the first woman to win the Pikes Peak Hillclimb, which she accomplished while driving an Audi.
