Who says a Muslim nation doesn’t allow women drivers to take control of the wheel. If you agree the aforesaid is true, the Taxi Sisters story may prove your verdict to be an erroneous belief.

Inspired by President Abdoulaye Wayde, a new programe launched in Senegal has been regarded as the first of its kind to be offered in any country with a 95% Muslim population. The plan is an outcome of a deal between a local car retailer, and a government fund to help female entrepreneurs get their starts.

The first lady Vivian Wade offered ten brand new cars to their new drivers where the first of what will eventually be 2,000 female taxi drivers by 2008. Restricted only to work during hours of daylight, the women have been put through martial arts training in preparation for any hard patrons.

The Taxi Sisters will also wear an official uniform of yellow shirts and red pants, making them easy to spot in the crowd.
